About The Play

THIS PRODUCTION SUBSEQUENTLY TRANSFERRED TO THE EDINBURGH ASSEMBLY ROOMS WITH A NEW CAST

“One of the greatest Irish plays of the century.” Irish Times

JPW King is an Englishman holed up in his Dublin office. He offers his services as a practitioner of ‘Dynamatology’, an organisation that promises spiritual healing and the ultimate in self-realisation to the wounded soul. But JPW himself is wounded, what with his dependence on vodka, the demands of his mistress, Mona; the unobtainable love of his life, Helen; and the big one: Christ, how is he going to get through today? There is a knock on his door: he has a client, an Irishman who wants to sing like Beniamino Gigli…

The production team behind the hugely acclaimed UK premiere of Frank McGuinness’ Gates of Gold, starring John Bennett and William Gaunt, return to the Finborough Theatre with Tom Murphy’s modern Irish classic, with a distinguished cast including Niall Buggy (John Bull’s Other Island, An Inspector Calls, The Weir, Royal National Theatre, West End, Broadway, Young Vic, The Butcher Boy Abbey/Gate/Gaiety Dublin); Catherine Cusack (Ballykissangel, Royal National Theatre, Out Of Joint, The Peter Hall Company, English Touring Theatre and Shared Experience), and Paul McGann (Withnail and I, The Monocled Mutineer, Kidnapped, Hornblower, Dr Who, Royal National Theatre, Royal Court, Liverpool Playhouse).
