Delusional? Unstable? Treacherous? Many of Britain’s finest poets have been diagnosed mentally ill and produced their greatest work while confined to institutions.

Complementing our main show production of John Antrobus’ study of life in an asylum, Captain Oates’ Left Sock, Live Canon will perform a programme of work from the fine line between genius and insanity, featuring poetry by John Clare, Robert Frost, Siegfried Sassoon, Charlotte Mew, Ezra Pound and others. A blend of well known verse and undiscovered gems, Live Canon’s unique style is a fabulous way to hear, see and experience poetry. Every Live Canon production features the world premiere of newly commissioned acapella musical settings of poetry – this production will include three new works by emerging composers.

Live Canon are an ensemble performing British poetry on stage and premiering new acapella settings of canonical poems; they have recently had great success with a programme of work at Greenwich Theatre in Autumn 2008. This is their debut residency at the Finborough Theatre. As well as Live Canon: Committed, they will also be presenting The Immortal Memory - The 250th Burns Night, a celebration of the 250th anniversary of the birth of Scotland’s national poet, Robert Burns, on Sunday, 25 January 2009.
