Anniversary Autumn Season 2010
September to November 2010
The multi-award-winning Finborough Theatre continues its 30th anniversary year with an Anniversary Autumn season of rediscoveries (from Walter Greenwood, Ronald Gow and Graham Greene), new writing (including a world premiere from acclaimed Australian playwright Ben Ellis, the UK debut of one of the USA’s most exciting new writers, Noah Haidle, and the first production in a new partnership between the UK and Canada), and the long-overdue UK premiere of a classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical.
The season opens with a rediscovery of Love on the Dole by Walter Greenwood and Ronald Gow in its first professional London production since the 1930s, playing from 7 September until 2 October 2010. The production plays alongside another rediscovery – The Potting Shed , the controversial play by Graham Greene, unseen in London since 1971, on Sundays and Mondays, 12, 13, 19, 20, 26 and 27 September.
From 5 – 30 October 2010, we present the long overdue European premiere of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Me and Juliet, directed by Thom Southerland whose production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s State Fair was a sell-out success at the Finborough Theatre last year and transferred to the West End. Playing on Sundays and Mondays 10, 11, 17, 18, 24 and 25 October is the European premiere of The Tale of Ivan vs. Ivan, an adaptation of the novella by Nikolai Gogol, the first production in an ongoing partnership between the Finborough Theatre and acclaimed Canadian company, Talk Is Free Theatre.
The season culminates in November with the European premiere of Saturn Returns, the UK debut of one of the USA’s most exciting new writers, Noah Haidle, playing from 2 – 27 November 2010. It plays alongside the world premiere of The Captive by acclaimed Australian playwright Ben Ellis on Sundays and Mondays, 7, 8, 14, 15, 21 and 22 November 2010.
