Presented by Concordance

The Cast:
Jack - Sean Power

3, 4, 10, 11, 17 and 18 April 2005

THE LONDON PREMIERE OF THE NEW YORK, TORONTO AND DUBLIN HIT

…Meet Jack…who thinks he’s Kerouac, but he’s just a queer out of work actor looking for weed, love and inspiration. Events on the streets of Toronto give him his chance to get…Unstuck. Inspired by the Beat Poets of New York City, and winner of the Chalmers Literary Award, Stuck is a solo performance which whirls you through a host of different, sometimes hilarious characters, from fly drug-dealers to two lesbians in a laundromat…

“A PIECE OF THEATRE THAT GRABS YOU BY THE THROAT AND DOES NOT LET GO TO THE VERY END” Variety

Sean Power trained at the National Theatre School of Canada, Sean Power made his debut at Canada’ prestigious Stratford Festival playing Demetrius in Joe Dowling's A Midsummer Night's Dream. He has also performed at Ellen Stewart’s La MaMa, Second Stage, the Irish Rep, Gorilla Rep, HERE theatre, and the Irish Arts Centre in New York. In Dublin, he has performed in a number of critically acclaimed productions including the sell-out run of 12 Angry Men. Films include Life With Mikey opposite Michael J. Fox, directed by James Lapine.

Sean created the role of beat poet Jack in Stuck, enjoying sell out runs and extensive critical acclaim in Dublin, Toronto and New York – where it was seen by Allen Ginsberg, William S. Burroughs and singer Moby. Stuck has won many awards including the Chalmers Literary Award; Best New Play and Best Actor (Toronto Fringe), Best Actor nomination (Dublin Fringe) and countless nominations for the Canadian Dora Awards – the Canadian Olivier Award.

The Press on Stuck
“…Amazing…” - Moby
“Raw poetry and frantic energy….Rubinoff produces this very hard if realistic view of humanity with a stream of poetry inspired by beat and rap, seamlessly incorporating passages of hallucination and dream into the already surreal narrative. …actor Sean Power makes Stuck as much his creation as it is Rubinoff’s. He bounds about the stage incessantly, deftly moving with unflagging energy. Stuck is a real shocker, one of those brief evenings of theatre that grab you by the throat and drag you into their world, whether or not you wish to go.” The Globe and Mail
“Sean Power as Jack never shoots prematurely – he rivets, matching the disillusioned blasts of bop prosody with leaping exhilaration and singsong vocal dexterity”
The Village Voice
“A powerful hour of performance…absorbing, disturbing and very funny” 5 stars ***** The Irish Times
“Power is eerily convincing... enthralling… riveting…the play is hilarious” Evening Herald
“Clippy and energetic, David Rubinoff’s Stuck offers a sharp and gritty portrait of a city’s underbelly…the bleak tragedy of Jack’s predicament is offset by the pieces great humour, with Power dealing masterfully with such shifts in tone” The Sunday Times

“There is much to recommend this work as a piece of interesting theatre. . .It showcases Power’s talent and vulnerability superbly.”
Paul Vale, The Stage
